My carpet has only been laid a few months and it seems to have gone all loose and baggy.

When carpets are first laid they have to be stretched tightly across the room - end-to-end and side-to-side. This is because with use carpets will soften up and actually stretch as they settle. If it was not sufficiently well stretched in the first place the carpet will actually becomes slightly bigger than the room. This leads to the loose baggy look and maybe ripples developing in the carpet. It is arguable that this could be a fitting error. It is though an error on the side of safety. Carpets can be over stretched and therefore damaged. Over zealous carpet fitters particularly those using power stretchers have been known to over stretch and even rip the carpet. Most reputable carpet retailers will not make an additional charge for any re-stretching done in the first few months after fitting. Frequent calls to re-stretch the same carpet may be evidence of a more serious problem. Perhaps the carpet is faulty or perhaps it was damaged by being over stretched when it was first laid.

Some cheaper carpets can be more susceptible this problem.
