| I believe that everyone
has the potential to make a difference to the world we live in. Of
course we all make a difference by just being born. We take up a bit
of space, some more than others. We use a proportion of the world's
resources, some more than others. We add to the general level of pollution,
again some more than others. But the real difference that we make
comes from the way we lead our lives, for everything we do affects
those around us. So we also have the ability to make the world a better
or worse place to live in. And the biggest differences come from lots
of little things rather than a few big things. One small selfish act
by one individual, in itself, will probably make very little difference
but 100,000,000 people each performing just one selfish act a day
can seriously damage the world. Imagine if all those people instead
did just one selfless act in the world. How might that change the
world for the better?
FEELING SICK. Just too
banal for you; just plain nauseating, then probably you are a significant
part of the problem. Of course we are all a part of the problem.
How many of us denigrate anything that makes us feel uncomfortable.
It is so much easier than taking responsibility. And we share these
"Oh YUK!" attitudes with others and laugh at them together
because sharing the joke it makes us feel less uncomfortable. Hugh
Timothy's poem "A BETTER PLACE" <CLICK>
(also on this website) may make you cringe but I think you will
agree that there is a lot of truth in it.
If this website can make
a difference to our attitude to the lives we lead and so make a
positive difference to the world around us then it will be doing
its job. I hope that in time people of every race and belief will
be able to contribute to and draw from these pages. I hope and expect
that it will evolve and take on a life of its own. I have deliberately
chosen the philosophy that respects life priorities (see Some
Philosophy) as that is the common ground shared by most
beliefs and that is the only thing that I would wish to see unchanging.
Home life, family - Business - Life's fillers and how all of these
factors impinge on those around us.
